Reggie Burt

Reggie you ripper!

Hurt to Help is honoured to support our newest recipient — little Reggie Burt and his family.

Reggie was born at 36 weeks with Polycystic Kidney Disease. At just 20 weeks gestation, doctors had already identified issues with his kidneys, and at birth, it became clear he had very little kidney function. From day one, dialysis was necessary for him to survive.

On July 1st, Reggie underwent surgery to insert a port for peritoneal dialysis. Tragically, his lungs collapsed the same day, and he was placed on breathing support. A week later, due to complications, he was switched to haemodialysis to allow his port to heal. Despite setback after setback, Reggie has shown incredible resilience, spending over 100 days in Perth Children’s Hospital.

Reggie’s family, who normally live in Karratha, have had to relocate to Perth, as their local hospital is not equipped to manage his complex needs. Both parents have given up work to care for him, and the family is currently staying at Ronald McDonald House. This has created immense financial strain as they adjust their lives to focus entirely on Reggie’s care.

Sadly, this is only the beginning of his journey. Once Reggie reaches 10 kilograms, he will be eligible for a kidney transplant. Until then, his family’s mission is to keep him as healthy, happy, and strong as possible.

Hurt to Help’s support will assist the Burts in setting up a home in Perth, enrolling big brother Carter in school, and managing day-to-day expenses during this challenging time.

We are deeply grateful to our incredible community whose generosity makes this possible.
